Why Runes and Oracle Cards?

Why runes and oracle cards and not tarot? The answer is pretty simple. I resonated with runes and my oracle cards more than tarot.

Don’t get me wrong, I love tarot. I love tarot being read to me. I love reading tarot. But she likes to play hard to get with me. While I can read tarot, it doesn’t come as naturally to me as I would like. I feel reading any medium should be easy and natural for the reader. The tarot just hasn’t clicked in place for me yet. It could be I’m not meant for tarot, or I haven’t found the cards that resonate with me yet.

On the other hand, Runes immediately felt like home when I got my hands on them—my very first rune set. I took to and learned them in record time. Pulling runes was as easy for me as reading a story. And I love how flexible they are. You can pull them like a tarot or cast (throw) them. I like to cast them. It feels the most natural. While some people want to read reverse runes, I do not. It wasn’t something that ever felt right to me. I think runes are simplistic in their messages, and it’s best to keep them that way.

Now, why oracle cards with rune casting? Well, that’s because it simply played out that way. Around the same time I bought my runes, I also bought two oracle decks from Etsy by ShadowArtfinds. When I say those oracle cards called to me, I don’t think I can emphasize it enough. The feel of the cards, the size, and the shadowy aesthetic all came together to pull me in. And each card’s meaning gave me such a feeling of… contentment. It’s hard to explain.

These particular oracle cards call me because I believe firmly in shadow work. I won’t go into precisely what that is right now, but it has been a big part of my spiritual journey thus far. I’m still on that particular journey. And I think the shadowy beauty of these oracle cards spoke to me. Shadows don’t have to be scary. They can create their beauty.

Getting runes and these oracle cards around the same time felt like a true synchronicity to me. My intuition was telling me that they were meant to be used together to send out the messages that needed to be delivered. The runes give a simple message, and the oracle cards dig deeper into it. A match made in heaven, as they say?
